The Beauty Of The Uknown

It’s forty-one degrees, and I’m 5,300 feet up in the Appalachian Mountains with no one around but the north, south, west, and east winds calling me to connect deeper to my heart. The leaves are changing, and the silence is a gentle reminder of the power of nature. The arduous trails ahead remind me of what it means to breathe, live, and feel connected to parts of me I lost long ago.

At the top of the mountain, I let out a primal scream and feel the release of the identities and roles I’ve been carrying. I’ve been sober for eighteen months, and I’ve had some fascinating revelations after challenging myself to be uncomfortable. Spending time in nature inspires significant changes in my psyche. Nature is the source of our well-being, and traveling to her can give us the strength to reach beyond things more powerful than ourselves.

Mount Carrigan Trails
