The Look Of Unconditional Love

Melina Marie,

You are six years old today. There are so many things I want to tell you, and it’s hard to express how much you mean to me in a letter. But, I have promised to write a letter each year you grow since the day you were born. To document what must never be left behind in the present moment.

It feels like a blur since we brought you home from the hospital. I didn’t think I’d ever survived those challenging years when you were just a tiny human. Turns out, I needed you as much as you needed me.

Since you were born, you have taught me life is a magnificent dance. Speaking of dance, we have danced many mornings together, and I will never stop, even as you grow. And I hope you never do either.

Your little hands aren’t so little anymore, and your toddler feet that I love to tickle are growing faster than I can type. The days where I hear the word “daddy” are fewer in between, and I sit in awe of how you find the courage to live in this world today.

I remember what it was like to live between two households, and I know it’s hard. But you are loved by both your parents. I can promise you that.
