Getting my manuscript back felt like catching a glimpse of myself in one of those funhouse mirrors — slightly distorted, whimsically exaggerated, but unmistakably me. It’s like that old saying, probably from some ancient, bearded philosopher or a whiskey-soaked jazz musician: “Life’s what happens when you’re busy making other plans.” Or, in my case, when you’re up to your eyeballs in fairy tales and bedtime stories, trying to coax a world of wonder out of the stubborn clay of reality.

The story is about a young girl, much like my daughter, going through changes. It came from bedtime stories about magic and change, and I would write when she slept at night.

One year later, it's a chapter book with themes, plots, and characters.

This book started as a way to stitch together the fabric of imagination for my little girl, to spin yarns of magic and transformation as she drifted off to dreamland. But somewhere between “Once Upon a Time” and “The End,” it morphed into something more — a mirror reflecting the twists and turns of life itself.
