I remember the first time I started to write, and my life felt like chaos. I could not process what was happening, and I had no clue how to listen to my heart. I lost sight of my true self and held on so tightly to a story that no longer existed that it was almost the end of me.

Today, I think back to everything I am and use my story as a place of power to propel myself into a deeper relationship with the world.

Writing poetry and prose is so much more than what most see in the words on a page. Each word creates a shared understanding of pain, beauty, and pleasure. Stories provide us a safe space to face the depth of our darkest shadows and a framework for uncovering our authentic selves.

Poetry and prose are therapy. It doesn’t matter if you read, write, or listen; something within words so eloquently crafted moves your heart. Through the art of storytelling, you can find the courage to enter dark caverns untouched by fear.

Rarely do we give ourselves permission to slow down and listen to our hearts speak. We often outrun the past, chase an uncertain future, and miss what our heart is trying to show us.
