How Do You Earn Your Day?

The Key To Unlocking Your Greatest Strengths

Almost twenty-one years ago, I embarked on an adventure of a lifetime. Paris Island became my stomping ground, where I took my first steps toward becoming a Marine. And let me tell you, not a day goes by without me reminiscing about that exhilarating rite of passage.

It’s a stark reminder that life’s toughest transitions offer us a chance to earn our stripes, my friends. These challenges come knocking just once, so we better buckle up and earn our damn paths.

Lately, I’ve been embracing the art of earning my path through brutal early morning workouts at CrossFit. There’s something oddly satisfying about kicking your own ass first thing in the morning. It keeps me grounded, reminding me of where I’ve come from and why I’m on this journey. Plus, there’s a certain familiarity to it, which might explain why I jumped on the CrossFit train in the first place.

Joseph Campbell explored this concept in his seminal work, The Hero with a Thousand Faces. He asserts, “The agony of breaking through personal limitations is the agony of spiritual growth. Art, literature, myth, cult, philosophy, and ascetic disciplines are instruments to help the individual surpass their limiting horizons, venturing into spheres of ever-expanding realization.”
