We are never entitled to the fruits of our actions
You have a right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions. Never consider yourself to be the cause of the results of your activities, nor be attached to inaction.-Bhagavad Gita
I am finishing up my edits for my book, and this morning I could not help think about everything in my life up until this point. It’s hard not to reflect on who I am today, and who I was. It’s hard not to get caught up in a reality that does not exist.
So I meditated on this verse you see above.
If you have followed my journey, you know that much of my life I was caught in the chase. If you are just stumbling upon my work, welcome to my wild mind.
From an outsider's perspective, my life had structure and purpose, but from an insider's perspective, I was all over the place. Running from things I needed to face, and the things I actually wanted to do.
Life was fleeting. The happiest days of what is supposed to be a man's life slipped away from me. Marriage and fatherhood were a blur. That is to say, happiness, love, and success were all based upon my attachment to external outcomes.
