It’s 5:47 am on Father’s Day, and the house is quiet without Melina. She’s not here until later, and sometimes I forget how calm it can be without her. But I’ve learned that missing someone is a gift, a reminder of the unconditional love between a father and daughter. As a single dad, I’ve been on a rollercoaster ride for seven years. From divorce to depression, and career changes, it’s been a whirlwind of twists and turns.

So, grab a cup of coffee and settle in as I share my seven lessons from my journey through the wild terrain of fatherhood.

Embrace the Unexpected

Forrest Gump said it best, “Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get.” As a single dad, this hits me hard.

One day, you’re a superhero; the next, you’re the villain.

Melina is now navigating a rush of emotions from switching between two homes. I remember how hard that was as a little boy, and I try not to impose my childhood on her. So I must embrace the unexpected.

She’s asking more profound questions about life, particularly marriage, love, and divorce. And it’s tough to answer some days.

I love her curiosity because it’s a sign of intelligence, and I never want to stifle…
